Adorned in Ice

Eliza Hawke, the ice-wielding princess of Keruna, has been married off to the earth-wielding Prince of Mineros. It is a cruel and unfeeling place that cares about power over anything else. As her days go by, Will leaves his mark with bruises and veiled threats.
Through her misery, Eliza finds solace in the Princess of Mineros, Nissa.
Nissa, is a beam of light even on Eliza’s darkest day. When Will’s coronation is almost in his grasp, Eliza and Nissa hatch a daring plan of escape. If the Prince is allowed control over the largest army in Catalina, then all will surely be lost.
As the two fight desperately to unite the kingdoms in their war against the Prince, a tale of danger and betrayal unfolds every step of the way.
What is the Story Behind Your Story?
I started writing this story my sophomore year of high school. I got to about the 25% mark, but ultimately abandoned it. Fast forward to a few years later, I went through an awful break up. Valentine’s Day came around and I needed something to distract myself. Low and behold I found the manuscript. I rewrote the entire thing from scratch and just never put it down again. Writing Adorned in Ice was so integral to my healing process because I felt as if putting my pain down on paper gave me an outlet and I was able to let things go.
What Was Your Journey to Publication?
I queried agents and publishers for about three months. I found Conquest purely by chance! I was looking at the Instagram explore page and I believe I saw Sylwia’s deal announcement. I queried Conquest that night and heard back not long after. My advice for surviving the trenches is to not take rejection personally. Yes, it’s easier said than done but think about it. You don’t want an agent or publisher to accept your work if they’re not as passionate about it as you are. Keep going until you find someone who loves your characters as much if not more than you.
What Surprised You the Most About Publishing?
How different everyone’s publishing journey is. I was querying for 3 months while some people query for years.
Are You a Plotter or a Pantser and What Is That Process Like for You?
I’m definitely a pantser! I do writing sprints to get the bulk of home story on paper but when I get to the middle/end, I kinda do plot. I write three major bullet points that cover the main point of the chapter. Then between each of those I write 5 subpoints that help me know where I wanna go.
What is Your Favorite Writing Tool?
I wrote the entirety of Adorned in Ice on Reedsy and it worked really well. I’m just now getting into Scrivener and I love it. There’s definitely a learning curve but it’s worth it.
What is Your Favorite Writing Resource?
I love Abbie Emmons Youtube channel. She has a lot of tips and tricks as well as great writing sprint videos.
What’s Next?
I’m currently working on a dark fantasy called The Heretic’s pantheon (perfect for fans of the Poppy War and A Court of Thorns and Rose) As well as the sequel to Adorned in ice.
Where Can People Find You?
My advice for surviving the trenches is to not take rejection personally. Yes, it’s easier said than done but think about it. You don’t want an agent or publisher to accept your work if they’re not as passionate about it as you are. Keep going until you find someone who loves your characters as much if not more than you.
